Welcome to the International TA Program

Cornell University is committed to providing high-quality education for all students, and the CTE International Teaching Assistant (CTE-ITA) Program plays a vital role in that commitment. By requiring international teaching assistants (ITAs) to meet established levels of oral English proficiency, the program works to ensure that international graduate students with teaching assignments can effectively communicate their area of expertise to others.

The mission of the CTE-ITA is to:

  • help ITAs enhance their proficiency in English by providing high-quality instruction, resources, and support;
  • foster excellence in pedagogy through innovative programming that helps ITAs reach their full potential as classroom leaders;
  • offer an engaging and interactive forum for discussion of issues related to cross-cultural communication and academic life.
