Richard Kiely, Associate Director CTE

Dr. Richard Kiely currently serves as the Associate Director of the CTE at Cornell University. He also serves as the Faculty Fellow at Cornell University's Public Service Center. He was the former Faculty Director of the Cornell Urban Scholars Program and the Cornell Urban Mentor Initiative - two university-wide, interdisciplinary service-learning programs. In 2002, he received his PhD from the Department of Education at Cornell University and in 2005, was recognized nationally as a John Glenn Scholar in Service-Learning for his longitudinal research that led to the development of a transformative model of service-learning. From 2002-2006, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Lifelong Education, Policy and Administration at the University of Georgia and taught graduate courses in the areas of learning theory, instructional design, program planning, community development, service-learning and qualitative research.

His current research and teaching focuses on a number of areas including scholarship of teaching and learning, future faculty programs, course design, assessment of learning, electronic teaching portfolios, online “blended” course management systems and service-learning as an approach to pedagogy, research, organizational learning and community development. He has designed a number of programs (i.e., orientation, workshops, courses, seminars, Master TA program, Future Faculty Program and Teaching Institutes) to enhance TA skills in teaching and their preparation as future faculty in higher education. He also supports faculty and CTE teaching programs and initiatives.
