How can you get started using technology in the classroom?

  • First consider your instructional needs and goals:
  • What do I want to accomplish in my classes?
  • What problems am I looking to solve?
  • What learning outcomes am I helping students reach and how can I measure them?
  • Then think about how you might use technology to support learning activities and assessment strategies and serve your needs and goals.
  • For new ideas, ask colleagues what they are doing or attend a Teaching with Technology seminar coordinated by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and often facilitated by Cornell faculty.
  • Visit Cornell Academic Technologies (AT) to explore the course tools and training opportunities available at Cornell.
  • Start small by choosing one or two new technologies to implement in your classes. Refer to AT or CTE resources for support in getting familiar with the technologies and using them effectively.

How can classroom technologies enhance teaching and learning?

When integrated effectively, classroom technologies can:

  • Strengthen learning activities.
  • Engage students.
  • Manage time.
  • Enhance classroom communication and interconnectivity.
  • Increase efficiency with assessment.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to:
  • Communicate.
  • Collaborate.
  • Create knowledge.
  • Interact with course material in multiple ways.
  • Develop their technological skills.
